JOB SUMMARY / OVERVIEW

The Engineering Manager will provide effective leadership, instruction, support, and guidance as well as operational and strategic direction to the Engineering Department.  This position will be required to develop, recommend, and implement improvements to production processes, materials, methods, control systems, and plant optimization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•    Anticipate and develop strategies and projects to improve plant reliability and performance based on industry trends and improved technology.

•    Review and advise on all modifications that impact the safety and technical integrity of plant and equipment.

•    Analyze data on plant performance and make appropriate recommendations for changes in procedures, or plant and equipment modifications to improve efficiency, and reliability, reduce safety hazards, and lower production costs.

•    Support and provide checks to daily technical monitoring by process and production engineers

•    Contribute to the general management and operation of the assigned division.

•    Prepare, review, and issue reports on the performance and activities of the Engineering Department.

•    Represent Natgasoline on technical items that involve third parties such as consultants and clients.

•    Provides input and leadership on work prioritization of plant equipment repairs to meet site objectives and goals.

•    Provide input regarding Mechanical Integrity from the team for fixed, rotating, instrument, and electrical disciplines concerning plant PSM requirements.

•    Provide leadership on equipment failure investigations to determine causal effects and make mitigation recommendations.

•    Lead team effort for the continuous improvement of equipment reliability through the development and application of effective reliability strategies such as risk-based maintenance strategies, identification & assessment of risks, root cause and bad actor analysis, and spare parts reviews.

•    Oversee team effort on pre-commissioning and commissioning activities that include witnessing equipment installation, alignment, and initial equipment performance baselines.

•    Report and analyze monthly energy performance at the site.

•    Oversee plant operating envelop and develop equipment performance evaluation

•    Support plant startup, shutdown, and turnarounds

•    Provide team input on the final check-out of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specifications.

•    Work with the maintenance team to develop a contact list and relationships for turnaround contractors and repair facilities.

•    Provide input on Operation Procedures concerning proper startup and shutdown of equipment.

•    Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation for the company.

•    Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.

•    Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS

•    None required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING

•    Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.

•    Minimum fifteen (15) years experience in a synthesis gas plant environment, five (5) of which must be a supervisory position.

•    Understanding of Process Operations

1.    Experience coaching and mentoring Junior level Engineers.

3.    Extensive and varied experience in plant operations, commissioning and start-up, and the application of engineering principles in a plant environment.

TOOLS / EQUIPMENT

•    Computer.

•    Telephone system.

SOFTWARE

•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred

•    Experience with Yokogawa DCS preferred.

•    CMMS; SAP, Maximo, etc.

•    Process data historians, process simulations software, and be able to learn new systems as they come.

PHYSICAL

•    Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.

•    Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.

•    Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.

•    Good physical fitness is required to support process equipment as needed.

ENVIRONMENTAL

•    The majority of work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment – such as computers, telephones, and copiers.

•    Requires passing by industrial equipment on way to the office.

•    Noise levels are typically moderate.

WORK SCHEDULE

•    Regular 40-hour work week, normal duty hours as assigned.

•    Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

•    May work longer hours to meet deadlines as necessary.

•    Provide “off hour” and “around the clock” shift coverage for planned unit shutdowns and unplanned unit upsets

TRAVEL

•    Less than 10% of the time.
