JOB SUMMARY / OVERVIEW

The Cost Accountant is responsible for monitoring the progress and costs of projects, investigating variances, and reporting project cost information to Finance Leadership.  The Cost accountant will also provide support with financial planning and analysis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•    Manage all accounting-related functions for all planned and unplanned outages.

•    Manage all accounting-related functions related to projects as set by the Project Manager.

•    Help improve the process for request, approval, and reporting of projects.

•    Assist the project team with any questions or needs related to the accounting department.

•    Ensure the accuracy and timely submission of project-related purchase orders and invoices.

•    Develop meaningful reports to be used by upper management to make decisions regarding projects’ direction.

•    Be the Finance Department lead embedded with operations during turnaround planning and implementation.

•    Assist the financial planning and analysis accountant with forecasting/budgeting.

•    Assist with Finance Department month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings as needed.

•    Responsible for any other related duties as assigned by Finance Department management

•    Lead and assist with special projects and ad-hoc reports.

•    Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation for the company.

•    Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.

•    Perform other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS

•    CPA/CMA Certification preferred but not required

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required.

•    Minimum five (5) years of accounting experience with two (2) years of cost accounting preferred.

•    Strong interpersonal skills.

•    Ability to understand high-level accounting concepts.

•    Advanced Excel knowledge and skills.

•    Must be self-directed and able to work with minimum supervision.

•    Demonstrate a high level of flexibility, adaptability, and multi-tasking to meet deadlines.

SOFTWARE

•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required.

•    Ability to lift 20 lbs. occasionally.

•    Ability to sit for prolonged amounts of time required.

•    Ability to effectively communicate through various means required.

ENVIRONMENTAL

•    Majority of work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment – such as computers, telephones, and copiers.

•    Requires passing by industrial equipment on the way to the office.

•    Noise levels are typically moderate.

WORK SCHEDULE

•    Regular 40-hour work week, normal duty hours as assigned.

•    May work longer hours to meet deadlines as necessary.

TRAVEL

•    Less than 10% of the time.
